Wednesday’s word: “Faith that overcomes Fear” by Rev. Austin via Psalm 27:1-6

What do you do when facing a situation that shakes your very core?
Some turn to drugs.  Some retreat from their problem by fleeing people. Some panic and react out of fear rather than respond in faith.

Though trouble comes, like David, those who would be believing followers of Christ must choose faith over fear.

The Psalmist David said “the Lord is MY Light and MY Salvation (vs. 1).”

In other words, faith must become personal to overcome our fears.

We can learn from the faith demonstrated by earlier followers of the Lord and the personal experiences where the Lord demonstrated His character to us.

However, in learning, we must choose dependence on God–focusing on His commands, His character, His promises and His provisions.

David also mentioned “one thing I have desired of the Lord“. His faith enabled him to desire more than relief but relationship.

Like David, our fearless faith will enable us to seek communion with the Lord. More than seeking relief from trouble, we ought to see residence with God.

Finally, faith that is fearless realizes God’s protection. Since fear is mostly based on your focus, choosing faith over fear is choosing to think on and seek the presence, power and protection of God.

Thoughts like that lead to praise.

“The LORD is my light and my salvation– Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the refuge and fortress of my life– Whom shall I dread? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though an army encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, Even in this I am confident. One thing I have asked of the LORD, and that I will seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD [in His presence] all the days of my life, To gaze upon the beauty [the delightful loveliness and majestic grandeur] of the LORD And to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, In His tent I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.” – ‭‭PSALM‬ ‭27:1-6

Questions for growth:

  1. What fears do you currently have?
  2. What do you know about the Lord that will help you choose to operate by faith instead of fear?
  3. How can we be praying for you?
