Happy Grandparents Day

It is a blessing to be a grandparent!

God's word affirms the blessing and burden of being a grandparent. Psalm 128:4-61 includes being a grandparent as a blessing to the person who fears the Lord. Below are a few scriptures to encourage and affirm grandparents on this Grandparents day.

Though time changes us, God remains unchanging--continuing to carry, sustain and deliver.
  • Isaiah 46:4-5 ... Even to your old age I will be the same, and even to your graying years I will bear you!I have done it, and I will carry you; and I will bear you and I will deliver you. To whom would you liken Me and make Me equal and compare Me, that we would be alike?

When one lives righteously, God blesses them with productivity and impact in their older years.
  • Psalm 92:14-15 ... They will still yield fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green, to declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

One of God's recognitions are the grandchildren that grandparents get to experience.
  • Proverbs 17:6 ... Grandchildren are the crown of old men, and the glory of sons is their fathers.

God extends His consistent lovingkindness, salvation and righteousness to grandchildren.
  • Psalm 103:17-18 ... But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them.

Grandparents, who are good in God's eyes, are enabled by God to leave even their grandchildren some type of inheritance.
  • Proverbs 13:22 ... A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.

It is a burden to be a grandparent!

As stated earlier, God's word affirms the blessing and burden of being a grandparent. The burden is often the responsibility to one's grandchildren. Below are scriptures describing the work of grandparents on behalf of their grandchildren.

Grandparents are to pass on their experiences with God to their children and grandchildren.
  • Deuteronomy 4:9 ... Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.

Grandparents are to share God's strength and delivering ability to their children, grandchildren and those in the next generations.
  • Psalm 71:18 ... And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.

Grandparents are to praise God, publicize about God and educate their children, grandchildren and next generations about God so they call can trust God, live for God, stay true to God and pass on what they know about God.
  • Psalm 78:4-8 ... We will not conceal them from their children, but tell to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength and His wondrous works that He has done. For He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers That they should teach them to their children, that the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, that they may arise and tell them to their children, that they should put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments, and not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not prepare its heart and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Because they are a blessing and labor through the burdens, we thank God for grandparents.
