Choosing Jesus - Matthew 11:28-30

On the day John the Baptist sent a letter asking Jesus if he was really the One Israel was expecting, finished his response with the following words:

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30, NASB95).

Many people were trying to following the rules or yoke of the religious leaders to get right and stay right with them. They also followed the rules or yoke of Rome to get right and stay right with the emperor. Lastly, they followed the command or yoke of the law to get right and stay right with God. These efforts would lead to fatigue and weariness physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Furthermore, they were all insufficient in God's eyes.  Why, because He required perfection. Jesus said "you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Matthew 5:48, NASB95). Striving for perfection would wear anyone out and lead to discouragement, fear and dispair.

So Jesus said, if those weary and tired from the yokes of religion, society and even the law would choose Him by coming to Him, He would give them rest or relief (aka salvation) from those burdens and the consequences of not meeting them. In addition, He would give them His yoke--or responsibilities and way of living and accomplishing the work of God--and allow them to learn of and from Him. Because Jesus is gentle, meek and humble, choosing Jesus by following Him would lead to rest and relief from the yokes of the world (aka salvation), but also provide responsibilities by learning from Him. Those responsibilities, or yoke of Jesus, would also be shared by Him, easy or manageable with Him and light or do-able through Him.

If this captures what you want (rest, relief, and salvation), then Jesus said come to Him. How? Admit you are a sinner that needs Jesus. Confess (agree, acknowledge and admit) that Jesus is Lord and Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead--after He died on the cross for your sins (or breaking of God's law). God promises to save or give you this type of rest and relief. (Also text us and let us know so we can follow up).
